Margaritelli Ferroviaria took part in EXPO Ferroviaria 2025, the leading international trade fair dedicated to the railway industry in Italy, which takes place every two years in Milan.
The B2B event brings together companies, service providers and institutional representatives to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the railway sector. During this edition, Margaritelli Ferroviaria focused its exhibition on new solutions for ballastless technologies and the expansion of the LAB division’s technologies, confirming its commitment to research and development of cutting-edge solutions for the railway infrastructure of the future.

Our concrete and direct commitment to support the sustainable forest management projects of the Bosco di Piegaro (PG) has allowed the remarkable result of the certification of its ecosystem services according to the PEFC scheme of carbon absorption and storage and of tourism/recreational function; the first, certified that the forestry practices put in place have resulted in an additional “Carbon Storage and Non-Carbon” capacity of 1,400 TonC02eq in 2023, exchangeable as sustainability credits according to the PEFC regulation.

The ”Grand Paris” Project involves a type of special concrete sleepers with integrated elastomer for Ballastless track system designed to mitigate vibrations depending on the installation site. Margaritelli Ferroviaria, compliant with the Technical Specifications, developed this new application on three different models of sleepers, one for each level of vibration mitigation required.

To characterize each model, tests on real conditions were performed by building three track segments 10 m long and a rigid reference track. The test procedure, inspired by DIN SPEC 45673-3, consists in measuring the system vibration response to an impluse applied to the rail at a known distance. During the test are also applied to the rails two loads representative of the suspended and not suspended masses of the rolling stocks. The results obtained for each track segment, compared with the rigid system, determine the Anti-Vibration performance of the three systems

Margaritelli Ferroviaria has confirmed its presence at the 2023 edition of Expo Ferroviaria, an international trade fair for rail transport operators from all over the world. Now that sustainability in transport is becoming a central key to the future of the planet, the company presented a new approach to sustainability.

Margaritelli Ferroviaria took part in the thirteenth edition of InnoTrans, the most important international trade fair for new technologies in mobility and transport. In line with the stinging decarbonisation objectives defined by the European Community, the company presented new product updates linked to production sustainability and technological innovation.

The integrated EHS (Environment, Health and Safety) Management System implemented by Margaritelli Ferroviaria and already ISO 14001 certified, obtains the certificate in compliance with the ISO 45001 standard.

The new testing facility of Rodallo (TO) obtains the certificate as Accredited Laboratory from the Italian Accreditation Body (ACCREDIA), in compliance with the standard EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018 for static, dynamic, and fatigue tests on concrete railway sleepers according to the standard EN13230-2.

Margaritelli Ferroviaria opens the new Testing Laboratory located in the facility of Rodallo (ITALY), equipped with the most advanced devices and technologies in the testing field of the railway track industry.

The new production facility in Ambronay (FRANCE), with a yearly capacity of over 200,000 sleepers, starts operations after the assessment and the authorization obtained from SNCF.

To increase the stability and safety of the track at the isolated joint of the circuit for signalling the presence of trains, also increasing the degree of protection of the wiring from accidental damage but without compromising the normal mechanized maintenance operations, Margaritelli Ferroviaria presents on the market an innovative solution consisting of a kit of special sleepers that, assembled at the origin in a single system with the insulated joints and their cables, it also simplifies the transport and laying operations along the track.

It is the most important international trade exhibition in the sector of railway transportation technologies. The number of visitors to the stand from all over the world greatly exceeded expectations. Visitors showed a lot of interest in the innovative technical track laying solutions the company presented at the fair: from PRC sleepers for tunnels to those incorporating USP, the sleeper model for housing a eurobalise and relative wiring, the rail wiring sleeper system and sleepers for insulated joints in track signalling circuits, as well as the company’s environmentally friendly impregnation treatment for wooden sleepers.

Rocla Concrete Ties, Inc. is the largest US manufacturer of PRC sleepers with a production capacity of over 3,000,000 sleepers per annum distributed across seven production plants. For their new production facility in Fort Pierce, Florida, they have selected the reliability and advantages that come with a technologically advanced post-tensioning system for pre-compression using sheathed tendons, developed and patented by Margaritelli Ferroviaria S.p.A. When plant installation was complete technical consultants from Margaritelli Ferroviaria S.p.A. mentored Rocla personnel to get the plant up and running, providing them with the technical expertise necessary to optimise operations and manage production.

Margaritelli Ferroviaria S.p.A. is the first Italian manufacturer to have been granted certified approval for its PRC sleepers with integrated USP (Under Sleeper Pad), in compliance with technical specifications set out for supplying the Italian Railway Network (RFI). This is an important certification, indispensable if we are to market the product on an industriale scale. It is the result of all the hard work done in research and development which began back in 2011. Including a long period of experimentation on the line, in order to measure improvements in track performance on high speed lines and in tunnels. The results of this research were presented to the RFI on 12 May 2016 at the CIFI convention under the conference title “Innovative materials for railway construction: PRC sleepers and cross-pieces fitted with USPs”. Other important factors in gaining RFI approval were perfecting the sleeper pad application process and establishing standards for monitoring and product testing.

The Ambronay facility is located in the Rhône-Alpes region. Since 2008, more than 200,000 PRC sleepers have moved through the storage facility annually, arriving by rail from Italy destained for SNCF developments.  Building work has been completed and work has begun on setting up a new production plant at this site, which we estimate will be fully operational in early 2017.
